New Life Churches

The Early History
  • From 1972 to 1977 the New Life Churches planted five churches in six years
  • Started Makkasan, a men students, hostel based church in Feb. ’72,
  • Supported two Bible school graduates to open a New Life shop front church in Angthong in ’73;
  • Started a family based church in Suan Plue in ’74 by sending 18 Makkasan members living in the area and 1 church leader to help get it started
  • Started a church with a student hostel in Dao Kanong in ’76 sending a group of members and 1 church leader to be the pastor
  • Started Satupradit as branch of the Suan Plue Church and based on local converts and with the Makkasan pastor going as pastor in ’77.
  • As can be seen from the above, to each new church planted Makkasan Church gave some of its members and leaders. New converts were either already living in the area of the new church of were immediately brought into the church fellowship.
  • Sometime in 1978 or 1979 a directive from Singapore came to the missionaries involved in The New Life Churches not to plant anymore churches in the center city area of Bangkok but only in the suburbs. The two missionaries chiefly involved began looking for a place suitable for a student hostel in the area of Ramkhamheng University. They found one and proceeded to rent it before consulting with their Thai colleagues in the New Life Churches. This caused a break in the relationship leading to the New Life Churches becoming independent of the missionaries.
